Hello. I’m a Glasgow-based software engineer with 30 years experience in the games industry and games-adjacent fields.

I’m proficient in a variety of languages, technologies and platforms. Most recently I’ve been working with Unity and C#, but I have also worked with C++, Unreal Engine, Godot, VR/AR and various other technologies.

I have experience in many areas of game development, and I particularly enjoy working on gameplay systems, character behaviour and character animation. I’m equally happy working solo or as a part of small or large multi-disciplinary teams.

I’ve linked a few recent and not so recent projects below. Below those, there’s a link to my CV which has a lot more detail in it. Thanks for reading.

Nerial (2022 - Present)

Senior / Lead Programmer | Unannounced Project | Unity

I lead development in taking an early Godot-based prototype into production in Unity. This was a small team and for the first 6 months, I was the only programmer and was therefore responsible for all aspects of setting up the project and core game loop, and for turning prototyped ideas into production-quality code.

Senior Programmer | Reigns - The Witcher | Unity

I was responsible for implementing a number of new game systems and for updating legacy code to support extensive changes to the game design. I also worked on UI, VFX and animation.

Senior Programmer | The Crush House | Unity

I took ownership of character animation and in conjunction with the animator, designed and implemented the animation system and animation blend trees which enabled complex interactions between characters. I also worked on NPC AI and pathfinding.

Edify (2018 - 2021)

Senior Programmer | Project Mobius | Unity VR

In partnership with the University of Glasgow, Project Mobius set out to create a suite of ten standalone Unity-based VR apps for use in the classroom. I was the sole programmer on four of these :

  • Introductory Physics - Projectile Motion, a projectile physics laboratory simulation

  • Field Visit of Arran - A photogrammetry-based geology field trip

  • Human Digestion - A stylised model of the interactions between bacteria and proteins in the human stomach

  • The Trolley Problem - A recreation of the classic thought experiment

I also contributed to the Mobius Platform which was a common codebase used by all the Mobius VR apps. Outside of Project Mobius, I worked on various projects with AR hardware such as the HoloLens and Vuzix Blade.
